dc.description.abstract This article examines Paul’s letter to the Philippians, focusing on the conflict between Euodia and Syntyche, which had weakened the church's unity in Philippi amid external pressure from imperial society. It contends that Paul’s approach to resolving this specific conflict is not to address their disagreement directly, but to engage with the imperial cultural ethos (cursus honorum) that fueled it and left it unresolved. Clarify how Paul’s indirect approach to conflict resolution applies to modern church conflicts because it enhances practical understanding for church leaders. Paul’s wise admonition in 4:2, “to think thus in the Lord,” has both ethical and eschatological implications. By reflecting on Philippians 2:1-11, church leaders can draw specific gospel principles-such as humility, self-emptying, and unity in Christ-that inform conflict resolution. It connects with the previous ethical discourse in 1:27-2:18. In this passage, Paul called the readers to adopt the same-and-one mindset (2:2) that should be inspired only by their deep reflection on the gospel of Christ (2:5), which narrates the example, the lordship, and the worship of Christ (2:6-11). In this gospel narrative, the church in Philippi, including and particularly Euodia and Syntyche, is summoned to embody gospel-inspired behaviour in resolving the disagreement, thereby preserving the unity of the church. In practical application today, church leaders are also called to embody this gospel-inspired conduct in resolving disagreements in the church. en_US
